Ben White aka “The Scotsman” is one of Ten FM’s presenters in the Stanthorpe studio at the Civic Centre. A relative newcomer to Stanthorpe, having retired here in May 2021 after twenty-five years as general manager across a range of industries, the Scotsman is passionate about music. He has made it his mission to promote local music on his show as well as playing an eclectic mix of old songs and new music from around the world.

Regular local artists on the show include Nine Year Sister, Shieldsy, Mitch King, Penny Davies and Roger Ilott, Sue Ray, The Dogwood Three, Adam Warren, Rusty Pickups and Mark Carter.

Ben has two shows on Ten FM:

  • The Scotsman – Tuesday 12:00 to 3:00
  • Brunch to Lunch – Wednesday 9:00 to 12:00

You can listen on 89.7 from Tenterfield and New England area, 98.7 from Stanthorpe, or streaming online.

He’s not a musician but he does write a bit of poetry just for fun. Some end up as songs and some don’t.

Ben's my husband (despite the different last names!).

I started working in I.T. in 1976 with a British mainframe company (yes, they were monstrously huge), and have worked in that area ever since (with brief forays into other areas, such as a scrapbooking shop).

I used to think that live music meant paying $200 to go to the Entertainment Centre, but I learned from Ben how wrong I was - sometimes it's the local music that's the most wonderful. I love music and Stanthorpe, and am hoping that this website will contribute to both.
