Amazingly, their following blossomed on YouTube and they caught the attention of international label AOR Heaven, who signed them to release their debut album in 2021! This was a compilation of their previous recordings and demos recorded by singer/writer Dave Whitney.
In the mid 2000s Matt created a musical wildlife education show, “The Rockin’ Rangers” which performed in schools, shows (EKKA), wildlife parks and theme parks. The show combined live original music about wildlife and real wildlife demonstration. He even partnered with Dreamworld and toured India promoting Queensland as a tourist destination.
After a long period of no music, Matt dusted off the guitars and started writing songs for the amusement of his work colleagues. This morphed into his alter ego, “Shieldsy”. Shieldsy now writes and records original songs inspired by the absurdity of everyday life from the comfort of his Stanthorpe home. Shieldsy songs are a satirical poke at every-day life, either his own experiences, or his observations of others’. There’s no politics, no drama, no deep emotion, just FUN!
