Granite Belt Choir
The main choir sings mostly traditional music in four-part harmony, be it sacred or secular, ancient or modern, and performs in several events in the year. Singing is and end in itself, but performances give us an added purpose and provide a standard to aim for. While it is not essential, an ability to read music and hold your voice part will be helpful.
A group called Contempo affords more flexibility to any singers who don‘t necessarily embrace the rigours of more traditional choral music and, as the name suggests, the repertoire is more contemporary. Some of its members are also in the main choir, Contempo performs at a number of community venues around town and is a popular gig for both singers and clients of aged care facilities.
Drawn from within these two groups, a number of the more experienced singers, with the ability to sight read music, form the Hollytops. This group meets for the mere pleasure of singing in four-part harmony a cappella.
Last but by no means least, is the Granite Belt Junior Choir. The juniors are all school-age children and are very enthusiastic. Any member of the Choir is welcome to attend junior rehearsals to lend some experienced depth to the sound.
The common threads are a love of music and singing, and a desire to have fun. The by-products are many; brain exercise, well-being, and help with stress-management. For some it is an opportunity to learn something new, while for others, it is a social activity to look forward to. At one stage there were three married couples in the Choir!
